Another example of novel to movie perfection, but you don’t have to take our word for it.. the Hunger Games scored a historic $115 million opening weekend and rave reviews!
Of course not all are fans of how the first of the three part novel has been recreated into movies. Some Hunger Games cast members have been subjected to racist attacks in shocking Twitter tweets.
Actors Dayo Okenihi and Amandla Stenberg won major roles as Thresh and Rue, as two tributes from District 11 in the dystopian saga. Recently offensive tweets came to light of comments made towards these two actors. One Suzanne Collins fan tweeted “Why does rue have to be black not gonna like kinda ruined the movie.” Another asked “Why did the producer make all the good characters black?”
Despite the racist comments, Stenberg spoke out last Wednesday saying,
“As a fan of the books, I feel fortunate to be part of ‘The Hunger Games’ family. It was an amazing experience; I am proud of the film and my performance. I want to thank all of my fans and the entire ‘Hunger Games’ community for their support and loyalty.”
Okeniyi spoke through his rep saying he had no comment about the controversy.
Regardless of the actions of a few so-called Hunger Games fans, the movie has been said by many to be one of the best of the year. Definitely destined for awards.
